Just a heads up and an apology.

An advertising update to the site was made on Tuesday Sept. 15. This inadvertently affected premium members, who shouldn't be seeing ads.

Our support staff believes this will be resolved before the end of the day, Wednesday, Sept. 16, or by the morning of Thursday, Sept. 17, at the latest.

We appreciate your patience as we work on correcting this.

- There was a bug earlier tonight that was knocking sessions offline, it has been fixed. - We've also made a tiny update to the M15 card frame to add more space between quotes and the first word of a non-italic quote in cards. - Lastly, you after publishing a card, you will be taken directly to it's page, so you can quickly add comments or share it out. Pardon our dust!

Since 2011, MTG Cardsmith has grown from a simple idea into a thriving custom card community with over 80,000 members, creating over 25,000 cards each month! As the creator and founder it has been my pleasure and privilege to serve the community for nearly 9 years, adding new features, hosting amazing contests, and joining the community in shared moments. Today marks a major step in the MTG Cardsmith journey - a new team with additional resources is stepping up to continue building and expanding the site! Some of you may have already met @Ian_The_Guru, the new admin for the site and the forums. Welcome Ian! In preparation, we will be taking the site offline for a few hours over the next couple of days in order to perform some final server maintenance. Thank you for your patience at this time. As for myself, I'm moving over to focus on my professional and family life, but will remain a community member of the site. I look forward to watching what the new group does with the site and know they have some interesting things in store ahead. Join The Official MTG Cardsmith Discord Server

Hello again MTG Cardsmith community! We hope everyone, their family and friends are keeping safe and healthy during these times.

We also hope you are enjoying the Vehicle frames we added a short time back. There are more frames coming to the editor in the near future, so be on the lookout for those.

One element we are adding to the community is an official MTG Cardsmith Discord Server. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with Discord, it is an app for chatting in text, voice and video similar to Skype or Slack and brings a real-time element to discussions.

Some of you are familiar with Discord and we were happy to hear that some members of the community already participate in an unofficial Discord Server. Aside from its official capacity, our server will be different in that it will adhere to the Terms of Service for MTGCardsmith.com as well as some basic Discord rules.

Think of Discord as a complement to the Discussion forums that are already in use. Contests and Challenges will still be run on the MTGCS forums as well as other events that you have become accustomed to over the last nine years, or for however long the forums have been in operation.

One thing we’d like to stress is that this Discord chat app is a work in progress and an evolving entity. It will not be perfect to start with, nor will it be perfect in the future. We add/subtract channels from time-to-time. Our rules also will grow and hopefully mature over time. Please respect the rules, the Admins and the Moderators at all times.

But most of all, have fun.

What is Article 13/17?

Article 13 (17) is a European directive that dictates how online service providers (like MTG Cardsmith) must control use of copyrighted works on their platforms. Platforms are directly liable: Article 17 [ex Art. 13]makes platforms directly liable for user uploaded content, which implies that platform will filter to the max only to make sure they are on the safe side. Fundamental rights are impacted: Article 17 [ex Art. 13] will seriously affect our fundamental rights, especially our freedom of expression and right to information. The real burden is on citizens: Individuals using online services will be caught in the middle of a fight between platforms and rightsholders. Legal content could be increasingly taken down ‘just in case’, because platforms have to licence all content that can be uploaded on their platform, but rightholders do not have any obligation to negotiate with platforms. User safeguards will be non-existent in practice: When legal content is removed, companies will likely block content based on their terms of service and not based on Article 17 [ex Art. 13]. In effect, the complaints from individuals about wrongly removed content will not work. On 15 April the EU Member States APPROVED the copyright Directive. What does that mean for MTG Cardsmith? Not good things unfortunately. At this time we are following other US platforms and watching what decisions are being made in each country and how it will affect online regulation on a per-country basis. So depending on the implementation legislation of each Member State - image upload rules could be subject to different criteria depending on where the card is viewed. If things reach this point, MTG Cardsmith will have no choice but to ban access to the site in those countries who go forward with strict regulation and demands on online platforms. For now, we are awaiting further details, but this message serves as an early warning that access is in danger for the European members of our community. Any changes we make will be done with as much advance notice as we can legally offer. It's no secret that today is #GivingTuesday, which makes today the perfect day to announce our plans for December.

Our expanding community of creators and makers has had a great year! This year I want to take an opportunity to give back to a cause I think is incredibly important. In celebration of the upcoming 2018 Hour of Code, MTG Cardsmith will be donating December premium memberships (new & existing) to Code.org. We invite you (if you can) to join us in supporting this great charity to educate and teach kids about programming and computer science.

Our fundraising goal is to be able to donate at least $500 together. When we reach that goal, all current premium members will receive a unique Avatar for their accounts as a badge of honor for helping grow technology education in under-served communities. You can join in by Subscribing with your account or Gifting premium to another cardsmith.

NEW: In celebration of all this Giftsmithing, we'll be releasing a new feature in early December, that we're calling the Set Stitcher. In Code.org fashion, this new utility was built over the course of just a few hours and provides a quick way to "stitch" cards of your custom sets together into a single image. The idea was to give creators a way to build custom background and single images to download and share card concepts across the web!

The next official contest theme is going to be about custom artwork - drawn by you (or your partner). The artwork must be a completely original work that you own. We have a lot of talented creators and artists on this site, so soon you will have a chance to share what you've got. Site Maintenance & Planned Outage 4/9/2015

DTK Icons and Planeswalker Improvements

Today we've released the following changes:

Dragons of Tarkir (DTK) set icons now available.
Planeswalkers have been given advanced/hybrid mana options.
Planeswalkers can now use -X in abilities.
Planeswalkers can now have double digit starting loyalty.
Modern and Planeswalker card generators have been given set icon previews.
