Does everyone remember Garruk, the Slayer? He was a special planeswalker that was used instead of having a library for an event when M15 came out.

Well id like to see what kind of clever challenge planeswalkers you guys create.

Here's one I did for fun a while back.

Here's my attempt at recreating the textured background they used for the M15 artwork, if you guys want to make the art in the same style.

Each month (or at least as often as I am able to get around to it) I'll pick a real life Magic Card that is an underplayed commander. Your task is to design a card that would help bring it out of obscurity, a card with so much synergy and potential that if it were printed, the featured commander would see a massive price spike and sell out on every major card buying site, a card that fits so nicely, it would show up at the top of EDHRec's list of synergy for that commander. That, or just design a card you'd like to include in the 99 if you built the commander. This is really just to get some creative juices flowing. Have fun!

I hate counterspells so much I have designed a new type of blue removal to replace it!

The challenge is, you guessed it, to make cards with my Cancel mechanic. You can change the name of the abillity if you think of a better one. (My card is probably underpowered. (And I noticed that it's an Interrupt).).

- Old cards allowed
- Try to make the cards blue, because that's the point.

Commander Competition!

Hi guys! This is my second Competition/Tournament on the forums, and this one will be a bit different from my last one.

This competition, each competitor must make a 5 or less CMC legendary creature that is viable in the CEDH format. Then, create 1 or more cards that could work as combo pieces with that commander.

Rules:
Please no infinite combos
Nothing greater than 5 cmc
All combo cards must also be 5 cmc or less

This is a small scale tournament for custom mechanics. Competitors will create a set called Mechanics Challenge and fill it with 3 cards. One card is an artifact or enchantment that uses your mechanic, one card is an instant or sorcery that uses your mechanic, and one is a creature that uses your mechanic. There will be a bracket and a winner. There will be rounds of mechanics. For example: if you win the first round matchup, you will move on to the second round matchup where you will make 3 new cards. You are welcome to keep your first mechanic and make the 3 new ones with it, but you may also make a new mechanic for the 3. Have fun and be nice. This is a friendly competition.

Welcome to BMC - Battle Mystery Card - again! This time, we will have a challenge for every players every week now (Inspired by Robo_Kitty).

The Challenge is generated every week, whoever played it will get a random card and the winner will get a Treasure token. As reminder, recently obtained tokens can't be used until another Challenge or the Battle been completed.

The Challenge will be also affected by curses, power-ups, and enchantments as if it's the Battle. It could become a battlefield easily!

If you want the Battle, all you need is challenge someone.

Artists Collide Challenge (Artist commanders, w/ Door Prizes)

The goal of this casual challenge is to make Artist creatures that can be played as commanders.

Artists should be able to bend rules and the flow of the game without being silver-bordered cards. Thus they have to bend the game in a way that is legal in each of commander, Legacy and Vintage formats.

Examples of such game altering effects are choosing what to create as tokens, copying cards, stealing text boxes, combining stuff, or even mechanics that allow you to steal stuff from another player and play with their stuff such as cards.

There are many other examples, but I'd like to keep this as free form as possible. So I will only give a few of them as references.

Requirements: (No entry limit.)

Card must be a Legendary creature with the Artist creature type.
Card must be black bordered.
New cards aren't required, but are preferred given the strange prompt of this challenge.

Due Date: February 1, 2024.

Door Prizes: In this challenge prizes aren't given for placing. Each of up to 5 semi-randomly chosen participants, will get 1 month of MTGCardsmith premium subscription. There may be more door prizes depending on the amount of participation in this challenge.

Battle Mystery Card: Create Your Own Weapon

A fox in tophat with a fancy suit would walk in then it pulls a chair out from a table. It would toss cards onto the table then it would then sit on the chair then it would pull itself closer to the table. It then puts its head on its hands as its arms are supporting up on the table.

Hello, ladies and gentlemen... And creatures! Do you see these cards? All you need draw one from these and card will let you know what exactly you must to build a weapon. But only weapons? Of course not, you can make some shields or some tools whatever you feel necessary!

Fox put its hand up as if it signals audiences to remain silent.

However, there's a catch... Before you could draw a card, you MUST challenge someone. Afterwards, you and your opponent will attempt to make best weapon and I shall be judge of it. I shall take a look at your weapon's appearance, test its sharpness or durably - perhaps both - how it feels to wield it, and proper materials for proper purpose.

Fox would tip its tophat.

Card, you drawn, may determine what kind materials you will have to build. Perhaps you will have to design it that's out of your comfort zone. Who knows? Your opponent will have to follow these requirements same as you. You will lose some points, if you didn't met a or more requirements. That's simple as it is.

Who knows? You might get luck and you will get a mystery box. You can open for either useful or useless item. One or more. Maybe you will have to win to get it.

Fox would picks the deck of cards then deals it onto the table, remarkable, it's ordered in circle.

Good luck, creatures! You will need it... Oh, ladies and gentlemen as well.

May Battle Mystery Card begin!

1) You must challenge an opponent before you may "draw a card". You and opponent will have to make a card from it. FireOfGolden will be a judge of it. If you feel it is unfair, you may ask for "Juries". I will get other people who's not in your battle to judge the card.

2) Challenge WILL expire within a week. Afterwards, selected an Cardsmith will be unchallengeable until they challenge someone. If you don't know who to challenge, I will automatically ask someone to challenge you. Just let me know so.

3) I will record who get items and who have used it. You don't have to memorize it. Just ask me for storage and I will give you a list of items in spoiler. A used items will be removed within three days or so.

4) If you wish to discard a card you drawn. You must have an opponent to agree with you. Hence, battle remain fair.

5) In case if anyone failed to decoded "roleplay" rules; Your created card will be judged based on its grammar building (Appearance), how well is it built (Sharpness and Durably), how balanced is it (Feeling to wield), and the way it is built (Materials and Purpose).

Shortest and Longest Text Boxes.

I just created two cards, one with a three word text box, and one that I had to trim down to 80 words just to get everything to fit. It made me laugh when I went back to review them side by side and noticed just how different they were.

Anyways, here's the challenge, create the most interesting card you can with as few words as possible, or, create the least complicated card you can while still filling the entire text box (flavor text does not count). Old cards are welcome. Don't feel like you have to make something new to share.

Ok, so the first thing you do if you want to join is pick a premade character card to represent you, or create your own three-mana rare legendary creature. Participants who use the same character are considered on a team and adventure together and get the same personalized challenges. The first card challenge will be a general one that everyone can attempt, which I will write later. After the general challenge, each character's participants can ask to "venture forth" or request a challenge as well as a story relating to the saga part. Prizes will be available.

Haunted Battle Mystery Card: The October's Challenge

Muhahaha! I, the October, been waiting all time for this since Battle Mystery Card been created! Indeed! Indeed! This is first time!

Not all rules from Battle Mystery Card will work here! The powerups, enchantment, and curses will not reach here! Here! I determine the rules, not that fox in tophat who likes to keep something fair! Losers weep and complain about unfairness while winners doesn't! Oh also, there is no jury. My word here is the law.

All challengers will be in a battle, all at once, as long as they been in at least one battle from Battle Mystery Card. If you haven't been in battle, then you cannot enter this battle!

There will be three trials, each trial contains three requirements! You must create a card for each trial and submit ALL cards at once. Once you submit cards, I WILL judge cards you submit, as long as it's not edited! If you edited it, you are disqualified! Muhahaha!

Cards must be created in mtgcardsmith.com AND this month, meaning October 1 to October 30! Heheh, pun! Provide the link; otherwise, I will refuse to judge it and give it a zero rating instead!

Muhahaha! The Battle ends by Oct 30, 11:59 PM CST. A moment later and you are done, even if you haven't submitted a card yet! No second chance!

Person with highest wins three Treat tokens,

For someone in second place gets two,

Third place gives one Treat token!

For each time you completed trial without breaking em, you get a Gold token.

Relapse Skeletons

With the recent invitation to create a Spooky Scary Skeleton, it got me thinking about an old mechanic I'd created that I'd like to explore more. I created my first card with Relapse, and it just happened to be a skeleton, and soon I'd started to trend towards Relapse being a skeleton themed mechanic. Here are a few examples:

Here's the challenge -

Do one or more of the following:

Create a skeleton that has or can grant relapse
Create a card that interacts with skeletons and the relapse effect
Create something else that would be really be cool in a set that has Relapse Skeletons as an archetype.
Be creative and have fun.

Favorites and such will follow. Have fun!

EDIT: Despite a bunch of discussion on the perfect reminder text for the Relapse keyword, there's not really been a consensus for exactly what would be ideal. Something along the lines of (When this card enters your graveyard, shuffle a random card from your graveyard into your library) is fine. This is just for fun, so I don't really care if you want to adjust it to your specific cards. However, for consistent functionality it is important that the following be true:

Relapse is a quality that a card has, so it isn't something you grant to permanents or spells, this allows it to be in effect as it changes zones.
Relapse is triggered any time a card enters a graveyard, regardless of where from.
The card enters the graveyard before the trigger resolves, and, therefore, can be shuffled away as well as any other card in the graveyard.
The card shuffled into your library must be chosen randomly from all cards in the graveyard.

It's been a long time since I've posted here, whether that be on someone else's contest/post or my own. Life got super busy but I've started making cards again that I hope live up the others on here and my own previous cards. Anyway, onto the For Fun Contest.

I would like any who wish to participate to make cards that might go along with one of my favorite cards that I've made, Abathra, God of Death.

She is pretty typical of black, sacrifice and destruction, resurrection, etc...

The only requirements:
Please keep it mono-black and in theme with Abathra.

It's time to create a contest/challenge! Is just a fun contest, so if you are trying to find prices, this is not the place. There will be a little "price" depending on the cards you make. They are mastery points, and I'll give them to the best cards. Make the most awesome cards and become a real "CARDSMITHER"!

The mastery points will be given this form:

1. Art (2 points)
Give credit to the artist and upload an artwork that has something in common with the card.
2. Balance (4 points)
The card must be balanced, so when you create it you can search for cards with same power and compare them.
3. Synergy (3 points)
Make a card that helps the starter card or with the ability of the challenge.
4. Special reward (1 point)
The first 3 people to make the "special reward" gain 1 extra point.(granted at the end of the challenge)

Scryfall Random Commander Interpretations

This challenge is simple, go to Scryfall and click on "random card". Then you take that card and turn it into a commander that's based off the original card. If you get a legendary creature or a card you may have difficulty with designing a card, Then you can re-roll it again to get a different card. Then post both the original generated card and the card you submitted so I can compare them to see if they are identical mechanics-wise.

1. Balanced: Not OP, not underwhelming.

Hi. You all know me (I think). I'm Ranshi, that weirdo who's been here for 7 years, founder of the unofficial discord server, mod of the official one, started getting noticed back in 8th grade when I was making bad phobia cards.

I read the entirety of the kindle dictionary in a week, one summer. I am a nerd.

So let's do some learning, eh?

This is a self-regulated challenge, so feel no need to overperform! How it works is that every day I'm going to post a word both here and on my wall. This word will most often be that day's daily word from Dictionary.com, though it may be something else. Your job is to make a card that uses that word in its name (which is preferable) or in its flavor text.
