counters, then remove X -1/-1 counters from
Amethyst Golem.
At the beginning of your upkeep put an amethyst counter on Amethyst Golem. Then if there are 3
or more amethyst crystals on Amethyst Golem,
put a +1/+1 counter on it and it can attack this
turn as though it didn't have defender.
