Amide

Amides are a mix of an amine and carboxyl
1. Identify part with C= O and name
the carboxylic acid (parent)
2. Replace "-oic acid" with"-amide"
3. Name alkyl groups (if any) attached to N,
use "N-" instead of position #s. If there are
multiple alkyl groups use "N,N-" in front
4. Name branches (goes after N-alkyl groups)
*Primary amides: no alkyl groups attached to N
*Secondary amides: one alkyl group
*Tertiary amides: 2 alkyl groups
