Captain Crewe dies

On Sarah‘s 11th birthday she gets news that her father died from stress from working in diamond
mines. Now she has to be a servant for the
boarding school in this treated really badly. All of
her money is gone and her possessions are taken
away.
“‘Captain Crewe is dead,’ she said. ‘He has
died without a penny. That spoiled, pampered,
fanciful child left a pauper on my hands.’”
