Castro’s Military
On January 12, 1959, Castro invited José Ramón Fernández, along
with others who disagreed with Batista’s leadership, to invite him
to operate a cadet school. By 1961, Castro called for the 1,900
troops José had trained to combat the 1,500 Cuban enemies, entering
through the Bays of Pigs. The enemies were exiles trained and armed
by the CIA intending to overthrow Castro’s regime. However,
Castro’s military won and maintained power.
