Connecting to Lower Class

Batista’s reputation for “selling out the Cubans” for financial gain to the USA encouraged more Cubans to support Castro’s political efforts. The resistance groups included student organizations, rural agricultural workers, and the Communist Party, who opposed Batista’s relations with the US. Castro appealed to the lower classes by promising an invigorated economy and economic equality.
