At the beginning of your upkeep, put a storm counter on Distant Thunder.
At the beginning of your end step, Distant Thunder deals X damage to target creature or player, where X is equal to the number of storm counters on it. If Distant Thunder has four or more storm counters on it, it deals that damage
to you or a creature you control instead.
