Lois Lowry uses foreshadowing in the book at the very beginning when Jonas says he is feeling apprehensive about moving up through societies levels to becoming an adult. It's foreshadowing because while Jonas is feeling nervous about it, what happens is that Jonas ends up getting skipped while being picked for jobs leading everyone in the community to be confused. It turns out that he got a rare job that not many kids get to have. Looking back on it, it seems as if we knew that this would happen because
