John McNeil Adair was born in Dumfries, ON:
the son of a Scottish merchant and sea captain
who emigrated there around 1833. They became
farmers in Ontario, John married Elizabeth, and
they had 5 children before she died in 1885. He
remarried in 1887, and had one more son. In
1923, John would die of a stroke, in Galt, ON.
