John R. 'Jake' 'Bud' Magee was born in Cheraw,
SC. He is a descendant of Clan MacGregor of the
Scottish Highlands. John fought in the War of
1812, serving under Andrew Jackson at the Battle
of New Orleans. He married Sarah after, retiring
to Washington Parish, LA, where he became one
of its largest landholders and slaveholders.
