King George III

George III was king of Great Britain which included the American colonies. The king was presented with the Olive Branch Petition which assured the king of the colonists' desire for peace and asked him to protect the colonists' rights. George III refused to receive the Olive Branch Petition and instead, he prepared for war. He hired more than 30,000 German troops to fight beside British troops.
