Limestone County
Named after the Limestone Creek that flows over
a bed of limestone. The first white settlers in
1806 had unknowingly crossed into Chickasaw
territory. The Chickasaw, known for their
brutality, with the help of government soldiers,
dealt harshly with the settlers, destroying their
homes and killing any who resisted. Limestone
County also saw battles during the Civil War over
control of its railroad. Modern day Limestone
County is home to several parks, trails, and
natural forests.
