Living Dread

If a creature would be destroyed, rather than putting it into the graveyard, put a -1/-1 counter on it.
If a player would take lethal damage, instead that player may take all damage that would reduce his or her life to below 1 and redirect it as -1/-1 counters to creatures they control.
