Lysinibacillus sphaericus
Rapid DNA mutations
Lysinibacillus (formerly Bacillus) sphaericus
is a
spore-forming bacterial species that shows
larvicidal activity in mosquitoes. It produces a
binary toxin composed of two proteins. The insecticidal component
of the toxin acts
on the midgut epithelium leading to cellular lysis.
