Mana doesn't drain between steps and phases.
At the beginning of each opponent's end step,
that player must tap any untapped lands he/she
for mana. Add an additional {1} mana for each
land tapped this way.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep,
whoever has the greatest amount of mana in
their mana pool must sacrifice a creature.
