Master Chief enters the battlefield with a shield counter. At the beginning of each end step, if
Master Chief does not have a shield counter,
put a shield counter on Master Chief.
If a spell or ability would target Master Chief,
you may remove a shield counter; if you do,
counter target spell or ability.
