Mendeleev was born in Tobolsk, Siberia. His family
went through many hardships, but his mother still
wanted Dmitri to get an education and enrolled him in
the Main Pedagogical Institute in St. Petersburg. He graduated in 1855 and did a master's degree, and in
1861, he started teaching. Mendeleev was eccentric,
caring little about his appearance and much more about advances in chemistry.
