Natural Selection

Darwin also suggested a mechanism for evolution: natural selection, in which heritable traits that help organisms survive and reproduce become more common in a population over time. Variation means that some individuals have traits better suited to the environment than others. Variations are passed on the offspring making them more likely to survive.
