Odysseus leaves Ithaca

- After Helen runs away with a prince of Troy, Odysseus tells Penelope that he was leaving Ithaca
to take Helen back.
- Although Penelope opposes, he insists on going because of an oath he swore. He eventually departs
for Troy, where he would voyage for 20 years.
- Penelope is left lonely again.
"Every man who swore it will now be called on to
defend the rights of Menelaus, and sail off to Troy, and
wage war to get Helen back."
