Photorhabdus luminescens
Rapid DNA mutations
Photorhabdus luminescens is a facultatively anaerobic
bioluminescent bacterium and a member of an entomopathogenic
symbiosis with soil nematodes within the family Heterorhabditidae.
Their
life cycle involves a symbiotic stage within
the nematode gut and a pathogenic stage when the insect larva is
killed by the combined action of the nematode and the bacterium.
The nematode-bacterium pair invade the digestive tract of the
insect and eat through it into the hemo-
coel.
