Planck was born in Kiel, Germany. He was a talented musician as well as a physicist, and was able to play
the piano, organ, and cello. Planck studied at the Universities of Munich and Berlin, won the Nobel
Prize in physics in 1918, and taught at Berlin afterwards until 1926. During WWII, he lost his scientific journals and his son, whom he was very close
to.
