Prayer of the Damned

At the beginning of each player's precombat main phase, if that player has the lowest life total or tied for lowest, he or she creates a 1/1 white and black Human Cleric creature token and adds {w}{b} to his or her mana pool. Otherwise, that player sacrifices a creature and an untapped land.
{6}{w}{b}: Each player's life total becomes equal to that of the player with the lowest.
Is this life or merely undeath? Who is to say?
