Salal

Salal is a native plant with purplish-black berries. The berries are edible, and can be used for multiple things such as jam, ink, and eating off the plant fresh. The leaves of salal are smooth with a slight sand-paper texture. Salal blooms and makes berries from March to June. Salal should not be weeded and should be encouraged to grow. This plant tends to grow in large groups of its own spices. Salal is cool.
