Samuel Joseph Warren Sr. was born in Shady
Grove, LA, to a family of planters and farmers.
His father died when he was 7, his mother when
he was 25 - just 2 years after he married Celia and
they started their own family. It's unknown if the
family still owned slaves when the 13th amend-
ment was ratified. Samuel died in LA, in 1907.
