Serratia marcescens
Rapid DNA mutations
Serratia marcescens is motile pink-pigmented bacterium an
opportunistic pathogen that is known to infect insects, nematodes,
and mammals.
It is a potent chitinase producer which may help it breach the
insect cuticle.
It also exhibits swarming motility, which might suggest an ability
to evade phagocytosis and
establish a disseminated infection
in the hemolymph
