From the wreckage of bones and charred wood you pull a small orb of glass and bone. Within swirls a shimmering black liquid that trickles putrid smoke from hairline fractures in the delicate vial. The object projects an uncomfortable heat that remains unattenuated no matter how many layers of fabric you put between yourself and the heart.
