As a Starfleet Captain, you excel in diplomacy and conflict resolution. Once per game, you can use "Diplomatic Solutions" to defuse a potentially hostile encounter or event, transforming it into a peaceful resolution, letting you flee from combat. The enemy can give chase only in the next turn.
