Sugar (or Revenue) Act of 1764

Levies new tax on sugar, raising costs
for colonists and lowering profits from
rum and other sugar-based goods. When
it enters the battlefield, the tax provokes
riots and consumer boycotts — use only
if required to pay down war debt and
reassert the Crown's authority.
