Susan 'Suzie' Melton was born in Washington
Parish, LA. Her mother died when she was 15,
and she married Lorenzo, her 3rd cousin, at 24.
Together they raised 4 girls, and 4 boys, earning
their living as farmhands. Susan passed away in
1942, at the age of 76; she is buried in Pleasant
Hill Cemetery, in Washington, LA.
