Stillsuits prevented the body from severe dehydration on
Arrakis. The multiple layers protected the body
directly and the suit collected liquid waste such as
sweat, filtered it, and placed it in a pocket with a straw
to drink from. One man explains, "The skin-contact
layer is porous. Perspiration passes through it, having
cooled the body...With a Fremen suit in good working
order, you won't lose more than a thimbleful of
moisture a day" (Herbert).
