William was the son of James Benvie, a Scottish
soldier who served in the British army and was
granted land in the Musqudoboit Valley. William
was born there, and lived there with his wife
Janet, raising their kids on Benvie Hill. He was a
farmer, and knew some woodwork: he built the
pine benches in the valley school. He died at 51.
